This year the MTS 8th International Rope Technology Workshop will take place in Galveston, Texas at the Tremont House on December 3rd and 4th.

The 8th International Rope Technology Workshop is an important industry venue that allows for crucial networking and the ability to exchange information on the latest advances and understanding in Rope Technology. The workshop is made up of technical presentations which have the option to be submitted for publication in the Marine Technology Society�s Journal or to remain just a presentation allowing for more free flow of the latest information to the industry (without a publication requirement). The last workshop was a huge success, bringing participants from around the globe and across the entire industry (Regulators, Fiber Manufacturers, Rope Manufacturers, Technology Consultants, Operations, Rope Owners, Installers, and Academics). Galveston was our original venue for this workshop but has been delayed more than six months due to the landfall of Hurricane Ike in 2008. The Island has recovered fast and offers us a great spot close to the water to gather and exchange knowledge.
I am pleased to announce that one of our Keynote Banquet Speakers will be Mr. Lance Labiche of the Minerals Management Service. Lance is an Engineer in the Technical Assessment division of the MMS�s Gulf of Mexico Region. Lance is responsible for the review of mooring and site assessments for Moored MODUs and also for general site assessments of Jack-up MODUs operating on the Gulf�s Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

Dickens on The Strand

If you are traveling from a far distance to join us at the workshop, one unique thing about the timing for the workshop is that it is the Thursday and Friday before the first weekend of �Dickens on the Strand�. This will be its 36th year and brings to life the characters of the Dickens novels on the streets of historic Galveston. If you stay an extra night or two, you can enjoy this seasonal festival from the Tremont (in the center of the action) or at any of the nearby hotels in the historic Strand district.
